The publication known as the Utusan Malaysia began from Singapore on the 29th of May in 1939. It was first targeted toward the audience of the Jawi-literate in what was then British Malaysia. This newspaper rapidly became a very influential medium in which the overall population of the country could express their opinions concerning the colonial government.

The first of four papers that were published by the Utusan Group was the broadsheet. It was originally established in 1938 and known as Utusan Melayu Press Limited. Once the country of Malaysia gained its independence from the British government the Utusan Melayu moved all of its operations including its head quarters to the nation’s capital of Kuala Lumpur.

It was 1997 when the Group made its way into the world of multimedia when it brought the Utusan Malaysia On-Line to the World Wide Web. This was the country’s first online newspaper and offered full text and visuals. This online newspaper gave the pay-subscribers the opportunity to read exact replicas of the Groups four newspapers online.

In the years to follow the popularity of the newspaper and all of its offerings continued to soar. The Utusan Malaysia has won several prestigious awards and offers educational portals that are widely regarded all throughout the country. Today this modernized newspaper offers over 32 pages of information for their readers including features on entertainment, lifestyle and politics. The Utusan Malaysia is likely to be the most influential publication to originate from Malaysia with more and more people reading it every day.
